Wow! What an adventure to obtain these rare minerals! Everyone is familiar with red garnets, but few have heard of green garnets. That is not unexpected as they are quite rare and occur almost exclusively on Chromite, the ore of the metal chromium, which itself is fairly rare and found in only a few places in the world in commercial quantities. Luckily for us and for you, we live in one of those special places in the world.
A few weeks back we went on an arduous hike with 1400’ of elevation gain in 2.5 miles to see if we could locate an old chromite mine that had been abandoned in the 1950’s. A report from the state geologist of that time specifically mentioned that Uvarovite garnets were found on the Chromite.
Happily, we found the old mine and were able to get some primo specimens of emerald green Uvarovite garnets coating the surface of chromite. Unlike red garnets, which can grow as big as an egg, Uvarovite garnet crystals are very tiny. A 2mm crystal would be unusually large for Uvarovite. All the green on our specimens are actually tiny green garnet crystals. Photos cannot show them distinctly, but you can easily see all the little sparkles twinkling in sunlight off of the gleaming crystal faces.
In addition to the Uvarovite green garnet crystals, many of our specimens also have the even rarer mineral Kammererite in them. If you see magenta color in any part of the specimen, that’s Kammererite. Some of the specimens also have beautiful, unusually large chromite crystals, which appear as larger, reflective silver faces, rather than distinctive crystal shapes.
All of our Uvarovite green garnets on Chromite have been enchanted by three Adepts in a Celestine Light Circle of Power. Between the three of us, we have over 150 years of magickal experience and produce powerful enchanted objects.
