This is the second variation of the 5-eye Dzi Bead. It has a special quality that gives it a rarity among any type of Dzi Bead and high value among collectors. If you look closely you’ll see tiny, red spots sprinkled throughout the bead. This is called ‘Cinnabar’ and is caused by minute inclusions of iron, not mercury, which the name implies as cinnabar is the ore of mercury. Plus, it also has seldom seen the craftsmanship of silver inlay outlining all the design elements of the bead. This is certainly a more modern bead as this level of process sophistication was beyond the abilities of the ancients.
